5 Bathroom Shower Issues And Their Solutions

Bathroom showers are one of the most popular showering experiences for people all around the globe because it brings them comfort, relaxation, and peace. However, even though these bathing areas are widely used, they still pose some problems like poor water pressure or malfunctioning equipment. Fortunately, there are ways to solve these issues.

Plumber Sydney owner Justin Rizk knows that bathroom showers are undeniably awesome, but they are far from perfect. They often drip, causing water to leak onto the floor and flood up your bathroom. The good news is that several solutions can help you prevent water from leaking from your shower head when it is in use and prevent future damage to your bathroom.

Below are some common shower problems and solutions to help improve the functionality of your home.

Bathtub Enclosures

The first issue is the age of your bathtub enclosure. As time goes on, this can become more brittle and loose. If your shower curtain rings are snagging or tearing the curtain, you should check to see if the material is old or if there are holes in it that are too big for the tension rod to cover. You should also check both sides of the shower assembly as well as inside to make sure there are no cracks or other damage that may be present especially around where your walls meet at your ceiling joint. Loose caulking between the wall and tile will cause water damage over time which will lead to mould and mildew. Replacing where it is needed will fix this issue.

Bathtub Floor Install

If your shower compartment has water damage or cracks, you should consider replacing the installation completely. To save money on material costs, you can purchase a tub bottom liner which allows you to simply replace the existing floor with a new one while saving time from cutting out old tiles and re-setting them again in a mud bed, allowing for proper levelling of the tiles around the circumference of the base of your bathtub enclosure. A professional plumber will have no issues integrating a new tub liner into an existing installation – just remember that your drain assembly may need to be altered slightly since you are installing a new base flooring.

Source of the Moisture

The second issue is likely to be a moisture source that has not been accounted for or is too close to the shower enclosure. If this humidity and moisture can get into your ceiling, it is only a matter of time before it will begin to rot and damage the framing and drywall which can lead to significant water damage if left unrepaired. Your best course of action would be earthing yourself as an electrician might when working around showers, bathtubs, spas, pools – anything with electrical components – as you DO NOT want those circuits shorting out from excess water! You also may need to speak with your homeowners’ insurance company as they may have provisions in place for you to claim this or other types of home damage that may or may not be covered.

Showerhead Replacement

The fourth issue is likely to be your showerhead itself. The pressure from shower heads can weaken over time and allow rust, sediment, limescale buildup or tiny debris into the piping below the flooring of the bathtub enclosure that could lead to clogs, reduced flow volume and water pressure, as well as reduced water temperature output. This is one area where you should consider replacing the existing showerhead with something more high-impact resistant such as brass or stainless steel to prevent future corrosion issues in your bathroom enclosure. Just remember – these are usually considered permanent fixtures due to their weight so you will need to speak with a professional plumber to ensure that your new shower head can be properly supported.

Shower Door Handle Repair

The fifth issue is likely the shower door handle itself – if it is not secured well, it could come loose over time and lead to leaks around the frame of your enclosure which will need to be resolved to prevent water damage on surrounding walls and flooring. A quick fix would be tightening the screws and bolts where they attach to the glass enclosure; however, some doors may require more extensive repair which you should schedule an inspection with a local home improvement contractor or hardware store. While you’re at it, ask them for recommendations on what type of hinges work best with the current installation of your bathtub door.
