7 Liquors For A Healthier New Year

It is a new year, and it is time to celebrate! Everyone is making the most of the holiday season and looking for ways to adapt to a healthier lifestyle to start the new year. In this case, it can be tough to figure out what liquor you will drink at your gatherings.

Alcohol Delivery Sydney owner Ming Lin understands that alcohol has gotten a bad reputation over the years, but the fact is that good alcohol offers some essential health benefits when consumed in moderation. There is no better way to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle than by keeping your drinks healthy! Touted for their antioxidant properties, these liquors will help flush out toxins and keep your body functioning properly!

Do you want to get your new year off to a healthy start? The following liquors are the way to go!

Wine

Wine is known to contain antioxidants that fight harmful chemicals in the body; however, studies show that some wines may also help prevent cancer. In particular, red wine contains resveratrol (a compound found in grape skins), which has been shown to reduce inflammation and kill leukemia cells. Wine has also been linked to reduced risk of coronary artery disease and dementia. Depending on an individual’s physical condition, one or two glasses per day can provide health benefits without leading to intoxication.

Rum

Rum is another type of alcohol with nutritional value. It is made from sugar cane and contains antioxidants, which help reduce damage to body tissues. Rum also has antimicrobial properties that can be beneficial for the skin. Darker rums are richer in nutrients than clear or spiced versions. One or two ounces of dark rum mixed with fruit juice can be consumed as a dietary supplement each day.

Vodka

Vodka is another type of spirit that can improve health if consumed in moderation. Once known as “white death” for its high alcohol content, vodka made a comeback in the 1980s due to its alleged ability to soothe pain without causing intoxication; however, research suggests that it does not have this effect on the brain. The lack of colour in Vodka means it does not contain any nutrients or antioxidants. The drink provides only a small amount of carbohydrates, making it less fattening than other types of alcohol. Vodka is also gluten-free and can help those who have been diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.

Gin

Gin contains no fewer than 37 botanical ingredients as well as juniper berries, giving the beverage its distinctive flavour. Juniper berries are rich in vitamins C and A as well as carotene and flavonoids, which have beneficial antioxidant properties. Like vodka, gin also has calming effects that may reduce anxiety and improve mood without leading to intoxication. However, because it is so highly concentrated, drinking excessive amounts of gin can lead to dizziness and nausea; liver damage; dehydration; blood sugar imbalance; and nerve, organ, or tissue damage.

Liqueurs

Liqueurs are sweetened alcoholic drinks that contain anywhere from 15-60 percent alcohol. They can be made with fruits, herbs, nuts, spices, flowers, seeds, roots, bark–and sometimes spices. Common liqueurs include Benedictine (which contains 27 plants), Chartreuse (an elixir consisting of 130 plants), Kummel (flavoured with caraway seed), sambuca (which contains aniseed and fennel), Midori (a hibiscus flower-based beverage) and Drambuie (which is mixed with honey). These drinks are often enjoyed as dessert after a meal; however many people enjoy them on their own because they are sweet and flavorful.

Brandy

Grape-based brandy can be beneficial to health if consumed in moderation. It is a good source of iron, calcium, niacin, potassium, thiamine and vitamin B6; has a low glycemic index; and contains fewer calories per ounce than most other alcoholic beverages. Some people enjoy drinking brandy on the rocks or with fruit juice as a dietary supplement each day.

Tequila

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant and contains antioxidants called polyphenols that may reduce inflammation as well as insulin resistance associated with diabetes. In addition to serving as an essential ingredient in many cocktails, some people find it helpful for easing nausea–and even pain during childbirth! Tequila is also an effective digestive aid. However, drinking excessively may lead to high blood pressure, brain damage and depression; if mixed with caffeine or soda, it can be especially dangerous.

Drinking liquor excessively can lead to serious health problems, including liver and heart disease. Consume these spirits responsibly and in moderation to start and end your new year healthier.
