Asthma is a quite common condition among people that has various treatments. However, as we know, it has many subtypes as well. One of them would be eosinophils asthma. So, what is easthma or eosinophils asthma that people are talking about? Well, eosinophil is a type of white blood cell that can cause asthma among people. So, if you have asthma, and the level of eosinophil is high in your blood, then, of course, you might have the condition of severe EA or eosinophils asthma.
Generally, the eosinophils test consists of a blood test, sputum test, and bronchial biopsy. By doing these tests, one can measure the level of the eosinophils in the blood. So, in this article, we shall discuss the tests in detail.
Brief About The Eosinophils Asthma
So, before coming to the tests, let’s come to the question of ‘what is easthma or eosinophils asthma?’. Well, Eosinophils asthma, or EA, is a subtype of asthma. It can be severe or mild, depending on the levels of eosinophils in our body.
Therefore, we can say that it’s marked by the levels of eosinophils, or white blood cells, that fight off infection. However, if the level is high, it can also cause inflammation. That’s why people with severe eosinophils asthma suffer from inflammation.
This subtype of asthma doesn’t always respond to the typical asthma treatment, such as corticosteroids. Though doctors prescribe them, and some people have shown positive signs, it doesn’t work that well for people with severe EA. However, according to the doctors, new drugs are being developed to target eosinophils.
These Are The Few Tests That Are Used To Diagnose EA
As we said earlier in the article, there are three major tests to measure the levels of eosinophils in your body. So, here’s what you need to know about those three tests.
1.    Blood Eosinophil Count Test
Suppose you have excessive inflammation and shortness of breathing problems, then you must go to a doctor. After going to a doctor, they’d check for the symptoms. If the symptoms match, they might ask you to do a blood test to measure the levels of eosinophils.
It’s a simple blood test, which is similar to blood sugar or cholesterol screening. However, you don’t have to fast before this eosinophil blood count test.
After taking the blood sample, it will be sent to the lab for a CBC with a differential of white blood cells. It will reveal the eosinophil levels, as the doctors have said. Normally, the reading shows fewer than 500 eosinophils per microliter. However, if it is over 500, then it can be a bit problematic. However, low counts can still indicate a bit of a problem as well.
2.    Sputum Eosinophil Count Test
Next, we have the sputum eosinophil count test, which measures the eosinophils in the sputum. Again, it is a mixture of mucus and saliva that’s coughed from the respiratory tract.
A doctor will give you a nebulizer with saline water to help you cough a sample to do this test. Thereafter the professional doctors will test the sample for any presence of eosinophils. Generally, if a person’s test for eosinophil shows 3% or more, they are diagnosed with severe eosinophil asthma.
Though this test isn’t practical because people might have trouble coughing out the sample, it’s pretty accurate nevertheless.
3.    Bronchial Biopsy Test
Lastly, we have this test, which is more invasive than the other tests mentioned above. Once you are mildly sedated, a doctor will insert a scope through the nose or mouth to collect tissue from the airways, which will then be tested for any sign of eosinophils.
Final Thoughts:
Once you have received the eosinophils test result, it’s time to consult a doctor for a remedy. They will suggest a few medicines which can help the inflammation problem. In addition, the doctors will also provide a few treatments that will lower the eosinophil count. Thus, it will reduce inflammation and asthma attacks.
