Uses of Incoloy 825 in the Chemicals Industry

There are several problems when it comes to handling and processing chemicals. Chemicals are corrosive by nature, and the methods necessary to store and manage them frequently generate a lot of heat.

It’s critical that the materials are chosen for any phase of the industrial process be capable of performing. Fortunately, recent advancements in alloy manufacture have resulted in materials that are more than capable of withstanding even the most volatile chemical processes.

Nickel alloys offer a number of characteristics that make them ideal for this business. They have excellent corrosion resistance and can withstand high temperatures and pressures. Heat exchangers, furnaces, pipelines, pumps, and valves are all made from these higher nickel alloys.

Incoloy alloy 825 is one of Corrotherm’s nickel alloys that are particularly well-suited for usage in the chemical sector. This was one among the first nickel alloys to include molybdenum in its nickel-chromium-iron composition, and many other nickel alloys have since followed suit.

Incoloy 825 Hex Bolts, although being a precursor to more current nickel alloys, is still widely used in the chemical industry. It also contains copper and titanium, in addition to molybdenum. These components combine to make a material that is particularly resistant to various corrosive conditions, because of the high nickel (38-46 percent), iron (22 percent minimum), and chromium (19.5-23.5 percent) content.

Characteristics of Incoloy 825

  • Excellent resistance to reducing and oxidizing acids
  • Good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking
  • Satisfactory resistance to localized attack like pitting and crevice corrosion
  • Very resistant to sulfuric and phosphoric acids
  • Good mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures up to approximately 1000°F
  • Permission for pressure-vessel use at wall temperatures up to 800°F

Uses and Applications of Incoloy 825

As you can see, Incoloy alloy 825 has been carefully designed to have a variety of qualities that make it suitable for use in the chemical sector. Pollution control, oil and gas recovery, acid manufacturing, pickling operations, nuclear fuel reprocessing, and radioactive waste management are just a few of the applications.

This nickel alloy is useful for more than simply its corrosion resistance. It also has strong mechanical qualities from cryogenic to relatively high temperatures, albeit it does have certain restrictions – for more information, check the complete Data Sheet.

It’s also a rather ductile substance, making it simple to deal with. It can be worked in much the same way that austenitic stainless steel can.
