Which Board we can choose after class 10th for competitive exams?

One of the most important decisions students must make is choosing the right stream for themselves after class 10th. There are several things that depend on this decision as it gives them a chance to narrow down their interest areas and pick the subjects that they prefer the most. However, each board follows its own exam patterns and curriculum, and picking the right one may make their career goals more achievable.

Thus, to know which Board would be the best for clearing competitive exams, we should get a closer look at all of them. There is a total of 5 major Boards in India.

Let us discuss each of them in detail:

  • State Boards

State boards follow an exclusive pedagogy and curriculum and focus on regional languages other than all the major subjects. Some state boards have now started recognizing NCERT books to make preparations easier for pan-India examinations.

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

This is one of the most sought-after Boards of education for public and private schools in India. There are more than 20,000 schools in India and over 200 schools in 28 countries across the globe that are affiliated to the CBSE board. It offers three streams – science, commerce, and humanities. And if a student is planning to prepare for competitive exams like IIT JEE/Mains or Medical Exams, CBSE Board can prove to be one of the best options. This is because the board focuses more on subjects like Maths and Science.

  • Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE)/ Indian School Certificate (ISC)

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education is a private school board in India that follows the New Education Policy, 1986 (India) while the examination is conducted by the CISCE. After class 10th, the CISCE conducts the examination for Indian School Certificate (ISC). The medium of instruction for the ICSE board is English. This makes it a good fit for students who are planning to appear for non-technical competitive exams like TOEFL, GRE, or IELTS.

  • International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate is a renowned education board. It is a privately-run multinational academic organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. For someone who is planning to settle abroad or study in an internationally-renowned University, IB would be a great choice.

  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)

Like IB, Cambridge International Examinations also offers certificates that are globally accredited. With examinations conducted in over 150 countries across the globe, CIE is an internationally recognized board. Students will be able to easily apply to universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the Middle East, the European Union, New Zealand, West Asia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka with a CIE certification.

Each of these boards has its own perks that can help you build a successful career. Based on your career goals and preferences, you can pick any of the aforementioned boards after the 10th standard.
